Daisy Gilardini: Polar bear families in Wapusk National Park - Manitoba - Canada - generally emerge from their dens in March and April, when cubs are strong enough to survive outside and ready to make their first trek to the sea ice. Exiting the den is a slow process. The mother will stay at or near the maternity den for several days while the cubs get used to the cold and explore the surroundings. Once the trek proper starts, the mother will periodically stop to nurse and rest. In stormy conditions, the mother bear will dig a “day den,” to protect her cubs from the elements.

Part of our inaugural Best of Canadian Photography fundraising campaign. This campaign features 18 iconic images of Canada captured by some of Canadian Geographic’s most renowned photographers.

Using Miller McConnell Signs' newly available ChromaLuxe technology, each photo is infused directly onto specially coated sheets of metal to create a vibrant and durable print that comes ready to hang on the wall. Each print will have the photographer’s signature and limited number on the back, and will come with a paper template for easy hanging.

Each beautiful, limited edition image is available for sale until December 14, 2020.
